85th Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta Program Guide

On April 15, 2024 the Dad Vail Regatta Committee lost Kevin Davis, a loyal longtime supporter of the Dad Vail Regatta. Kevin started volunteering for the Dad Vail regatta in 2006. He selfishly helped out wherever he was needed. He was one of the starting officials, he helped in traffic and parking and he joined the Dad Vail Board of Directors in 2008. Kevin brought joy to the Dad Vail Regatta; one could hear his infectious, friendly laugh up and down the racecourse. Although Kevin never rowed, he was an avid supporter of this regatta and his alma mater, LaSalle University and its rowing program. Kevin was a diehard Phildelphian. He was born on October 31,1957 and raised in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. He graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School in 1975 and LaSalle University in 1980. He received a master’s degree in healthcare administration from the University of Tennessee and an Executive Education certificate from the University of Pennsylvania. Although Kevin helped numerous Healthcare institutions improve their supply chain systems, his greatest asset was his ability to connect with people and establish long lasting relationships throughout his life. He developed friendships across the globe. His laughter and greeting smile will be missed but not forgotten among the Dad Vail volunteers and on the Schuylkill. They married in 1964 and she became the cornerstone and matriarch of her family of 4 children, 17 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. As they supported each other in marriage, rowing became part of Betty's life. For many years she was a volunteer at the Dad Vail and Frostbite Regattas, working on awards and recognition. Her life involved many rowing trips including the Head of the Charles and the Henley Royal Regatta. In 1983 she travelled with the first U.S.A. Dragon Boat Team that competed in Hong Kong. In recognition of her lifetime support of rowing, La Salle University Crew, christened a racing shell, the "Betty Shaw". Betty is gone, but her memory will live on for many years in future Dad Vail Regattas. Elizabeth "Betty" Shaw indelible memory of a role model who personified formidable traits, most worthy of being emulated. He was inducted into the La Salle Alumni Hall of Fame in 2009 and the Athletic Hall of Fame in 2025. George passed away on January 27, 2024, leaving behind his loving wife Lois Trench-Hines, who he had met only as a result of their mutual presence on Boathouse Row. With his name newly inscribed on a tableau entitled Dad Vail Final Toast, George will now be remembered each year at the Dad Vail Regatta when heads are bowed for a moment of silence following roll call of spirited volunteers who have departed.
