Award History The John A. Seitz Award is presented annually at the Dad Vail Regatta to an individual whose service to the Dad Vail is exemplary. This award is given in memory of Jack Seitz, a man whose commitment to the sport of rowing is legendary. His tenure was also distinguished by Varsity Eight wins over Temple University in 1982 and 1988. Athletic successes were manifold, following Bill’s advancement to Athletic Director, and he established the groundwork for an enviable record. Florida Tech has won five NCAA national championships – two in men’s soccer, two in women’s golf and one in swimming. Panther teams won 35 Sunshine State Conference championships, seven SSC individual championships, 20 Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association championships and 27 Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association championships. Most recently, Bill has advanced to the position of Vice-President of University Relations. It is the privilege of the Dad Vail Regatta Organizing Committee to name Bill Jurgens for the year 2025, the recipient of John A. Seitz Award for his exemplary service.
