A Final Toast

The Dad Vail "family" will sorely miss long-term volunteer, Dan Ragan, at this year’s Regatta. Dan passed away in March at the age of 57. Friendly and jovial, Dan helped the Regatta with the logistical aspects of parking and providing docking facilities. His participation in rowing began back in college at La Salle University and, with the exception of a few years to start a family, continued until the present.

We extend our sincerest condolences to Dan's family, his friends and all members of the rowing community.

We are sad to announce the loss of one of our faithful volunteers, Daniel McEvily. Dan has become a familiar face in the Dads Vail Regatta. He has given his time and talent to crew racing as one of our volunteer workers at the starting line for the last 16 years. We extend our warmest condolences to his family. Thank you, Dan,
for your generosity and for your many years of help.

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Matthew Ledwith, a Dad Vail Director and servant of rowing who demonstrated an exceptional level of dedication and service to the Dad Vail Regatta. Matt worked tirelessly to assist whenever asked, with every aspect of the Regatta, whether involving Board decisions, rowing rules, constructing docks, or personally assisting a rower who missed a weigh in, having just completed a final exam, arriving at the Philadelphia airport just before the start of a key race.

We extend our sincerest condolences to Matt's family, his friends and all members of the rowing community.

The Dad Vail Regatta Organizing Committee is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Scott Laio, the student athlete from Boston College.

It is a fact that this young man and his crew were gold medal winners in the Men’s Varsity Lightweight 8 event at the Dad Vail Regatta.

We send our prayers and sincerest condolences to his family, his teammates and the Boston College community.

James R. Hanna
President
