Robert W. Suter, Esq. and his wife, Mary Anne “Mazie” Suter, were true stalwarts of the rowing community, leaving an indelible mark through decades of dedicated stewardship. A standout oarsman for LaSalle College High School and LaSalle College, Bob’s competitive career was highlighted by two Dad Vail Varsity Championships and a 1958 National Championship with Vesper Boat Club. His transition from elite athlete to mentor saw him shape generations of rowers as a coach and serve for over 30 years as a respected referee. Bob began his service to the Dad Vail as devoted LaSalle alumni, earning his Gold Jacket in the early 1980s, cementing his legacy among the most dedicated and seasoned officials of the regatta. Beside him, Mazie was the heart of the community—feeding the entire referee corps and visiting crews, and often opening their home to host traveling teams. Driven by the belief that rowing is the purest expression of teamwork and the spark for lifelong friendship, the Suters are remembered as a family of principle. Their tireless advocacy and warmth fostered the growth of rowing programs across the East Coast, leaving a legacy of character and community. Robert W Suter, Esq. A FINALToast
