Philadelphia, PA - The Dad Vail Regatta Organizing Committee, host of the Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta, celebrating its 75th anniversary, announced today it will partner for a third consecutive year with 6abc to provide coverage of the final afternoon races of the Aberdeen Asset Management Dad Vail Regatta on Saturday May 11 from 1 to 5 pm.
Over 3,500 student-athletes from up to 125 colleges and universities in the U.S. and Canada will compete on Philadelphia's National Race Course on the Schuylkill River on Friday, May 10 and Saturday May 11. On Saturday, May 11, the qualifiers from the previous day will have the opportunity to compete in the semi finals and finals. The Saturday afternoon finals will be televised in the Philadelphia region and live streamed worldwide on 6abc.com and ESPN3.
“The Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta and WPVI-TV (6abc) are pleased to have the opportunity to showcase such a prestigious event featuring outstanding rowing programs," said Jim Hanna, President of the Dad Vail Regatta Organizing Committee. "For the third consecutive year, collegiate rowing will be televised in the Philadelphia region and live streamed worldwide. The regatta will spotlight top colleges and universities from across the United States that will travel to Philadelphia, the Mecca of rowing, to compete in the largest collegiate regatta in North America. The scope of this historic telecast as we celebrate our 75th anniversary will showcase rowing at its finest."
Bernie Prazenica, President and General Manager of WPVI-TV, added “We are delighted to be part of the Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta again this year. Televising this great race and unique Philadelphia event aligns perfectly with our mission to provide our viewers the most popular local events that our community has to offer.”
The WPVI-TV (6abc) broadcast of the Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta finals races will include three camera boats catching the action from the Schuylkill River. As part of the programming, 6abc will use a number of cameras along the river to capture various angles throughout the race including a finish line camera to catch all close finishes. Also included will be slow-motion replays along with pre-produced race packages.
The WPVI-TV (6abc) live broadcast on Saturday, May 11, from 1-5 pm, will feature Action News Sports Anchor Ducis Rodgers anchoring the coverage. Joining Rodgers in the both will be commentators Ferdinand Bergen, former LaSalle College High School rower and Temple University Dad Vail gold medal winner and Alex Paulin, a four-year coxswain at Drexel and a member of the Dragons women's varsity lightweight eight championship crew at last year's regatta. Paulin rowed at Egg Harbor Township High School before entering Drexel.
WPVII-TV (6abc) meteorologist Karen Rogers and Reporter Amy Buchman will be in the crowd interviewing Aberdeen Dad Vail officials, rowing personalities and other VIP’s.
Commenting on the continued growth of the Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta, Gary Marshall, Chief Executive of Aberdeen Asset Management Inc. said, “In our fourth consecutive year as title sponsor of the 75th Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta, we are delighted that 6ABC will once again be broadcasting from the banks of the Schuylkill River on Sat May 11th. This historic regatta is undoubtedly a highlight of Philadelphia tradition and one that we want to share with as wide an audience as possible. Because of the coverage on ESPN3, friends and family of the participating students from all over the U.S. and from around the world will have the opportunity to watch their crews in action.
