Dad Vail Regatta Welcomes Thomas Jefferson University as Presenting Sponsor
For Immediate Release
Philadelphia, PA, January 29, 2015 – Thanks to Thomas Jefferson University, the Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta just got healthier.
The Dad Vail Regatta Organizing Committee (DVROC) is pleased to announce it has reached a five-year agreement with Thomas Jefferson University (Jefferson) to serve as the Presenting Sponsor of America’s largest and most celebrated collegiate rowing regatta in the country. The University’s sponsorship is effective with the 77th edition of the Regatta which takes place Friday, May 8 and Saturday, May 9, 2015 on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.
“We are extremely pleased to have Thomas Jefferson University join our title sponsor, Aberdeen Asset Management, as a major partner of the Dad Vail Regatta,” said Jim Hanna, president of DVROC. “In a sport that requires rowers to be in superb shape, this alliance between the Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta and TJU symbolizes all the wonderful benefits associated with excellent fitness and health.”
Jefferson is planning to staff several Health Screening & Awareness Stations at the Regatta to stress the importance of personal health and well-being to the thousands of spectators who attend the two-day event.
“Jefferson is proud to support the Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta, an iconic Philadelphia tradition,” said Stephen K. Klasko, M.D., MBA, President and CEO of Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health System.
“A quality healthcare team, just like the fittest crew, must work together in synchrony towards a common goal. For Jefferson’s crew, that goal is the health and well-being of our patients and community.”
The Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta annually attracts more than 115 universities and colleges and 3,300 rowers, equally divided among men and women.
Named after beloved rowing coach Harry Emerson “Dad” Vail who was one of the sport’s most passionate advocates, the regatta annually attracts 25,000 spectators who line the banks of the Schuylkill River to enjoy the spirited competition and festive atmosphere.
For the fifth straight year, WPVI-TV, 6ABC, the market leader, will broadcast live on Saturday, May 9, 2015 from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM and the races also will be streamed on ESPN3.com.
