Philadelphia, PA (May 6, 2016) – The Marist College men’s crew team returns to the Dad Vail Regatta presented by The Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Thomas Jefferson University on Friday, May 13 and Saturday, May 14 hoping to rekindle the magic they experienced during their last visit in 2011.
While that trip did not result in a medal it was a memorable experience that gave many team members a chance to participate in the nation’s oldest collegiate regatta. The Red Foxes, especially the senior class, anxiously await their opportunity for a long overdue trip back to the banks of the Schuylkill River to hopefully enjoy the same success their crew had in the early days.
“The Dad Vail is a great regatta, both in terms of the competition available, as well as the history and tradition of rowing on the Schuylkill in Philadelphia,” said Marist head coach Tom Sanford. “We’re proud to be able to participate in such a great race.”
Senior Kyle Mikesh who never thought he would have a chance to row in the Dad Vail Regatta during his career added, “We're honored. It means so much as a senior captain that I would get the opportunity to lead the Red Foxes against so many competitive crews.
With a rich tradition of participating at Dad Vail, the Red Foxes will arrive in Philadelphia hoping to build on the progress they have made throughout the spring season overcoming the obstacle of not being able to train as much as they would have hoped due to rough water conditions in Poughkeepsie, where Marist is located.
“Our guys have been working hard this spring and have been improving each week,” said Sanford. “It would be great for them to have a successful result at the Dad Vail to cap off all of the hard training.”
Mikesh added, “Our team chemistry continues to grow practice by practice, race by race and I know that we have a solid group of guys to place high at Dad Vail."
